Does Snake Have To Be Evil?
In the traditional Biblical story of Adam & Eve, the snake is portrayed as evil and as a temptor. (If I had seen a snake coming out of the tree, I would have run away - not accepted food from him!!!) But in many cultures, the snake is not only deified as a Goddess, she is associated with wisdom & regeneration.

Dreams of Snake
I have had many snake dreams. Some dream books say this is foreboding, but I choose not to be superstitious & take this as a bad sign (knock wood), but to try to see where I might need to find wisdom or to shed my skin.

Creative Uses for Snakes...
If you click on my snake goddess link, you will learn not only about goddesses who appear as snakes or half snake - half human, but also about goddesses who used live snakes in creative ways, such as for skirts, for the roofing material on a house, and on shields. I think this is interesting - especially since I had the vivid dream of using live snakes as curtains. I wonder what this represents. Perhaps using wisdom in practical ways in daily life? Perhaps as a way to protect ourselves in daily life? Any suggestions? As a child, living in an area with many rattlesnakes, I saw their skin used as hatbands, etc when they were killed. But they were only killed when they seemed to be a danger to us. I read that the Navajo feel that it is vanity to kill a snake for decoration only and will bring about danger.
I recently saw on TV where pythons were skinned alive so that their skins made better leather. Won't be buying anything made of snakeskin - yuk.

Some Snake Dreams I've Had...
* Needing a Window Shade & Hangin Live Rattle Snakes over my window to cover it * Being bitten by a black, yellow & red snake & not knowing if it was the poisonous or nonpoisonous variety. Not being able to get anyone to take me to the hospital.
* Walking through a garden & having a multitude of green, nonpoisonous snakes crawl over me.
* Standing on a bridge & seeeing water moccasins swimming in the water beneath.

Is Mary a Snake Goddess?
Growing up Protestant, I didn't see many images of the Virgin Mary, however as an adult, I've noticed that the ones I do see often show a snake at her feet. I had an image which I was told was "Mary of the Miraculous Medal" which showed her atop the world with a snake at her feet. I wonder if there is a Biblical reason this is shown? Or perhaps Mary is the modern version of the ancient Snake Goddess?

FYI: Milk Snake vs Coral Snake
Coral Snake is poisonous. Milk Snake is not. They are both red, yellow & black & look similar. Remember this ditty: - Red Against Yellow Kill A Fellow, Red Against Black, Venom Lack...
or you can just not mess with either one of them!

Shedding Skin
Snakes shed their skins when they need to grow - therefore the regenerative powers accredited to the snake goddess. Where in your life do you need to grow? What part of your skins can you shed? |
